Trumbull's Breslow Agrees To One-Year Deal With Diamondbacks

Trumbull native Craig Breslow has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks reported to be worth $1.795 million.
Breslow had been the Diamondbacks' only remaining unsigned arbitration-eligible player. He had asked for $2.1 million while the Diamondbacks offered a $1.5 million contract.

The Diamondbacks, who won the National League West title last year, acquired Breslow from the Oakland Athletics in December.
Breslow, 31, is entering his seventh major league season and has a career mark of 12-17 with a 3.06 ERA as a specialist out of the bullpen.

The Yale graduate who has been called the smartest man in baseball, spent the last three seasons with the Athletics. In 2011, he made 67 appearances, all out of the bullpen, while going 0-2 with a 3.79 ERA.
Breslow's best season came in 2009, when he went 8-7 with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Christian Keator and Zach Usinger each scored three goals Wednesday as the boys hockey team pounded Stamford 11-1 at the Shelton Rinks.
Ryan Corcoran, Dom Sidorczuk, Mark Laoue, Matt Vazzano and John Ferguson also scored for the Cadets, who improved to 10-6 after outshooting the Black Knights, 58-12,
Ron Johnson stopped 11 shots for St. Joseph and a shell-shocked Jim Sexton made 47 saves for Stamford.
Zach Fornaciari had the only goal for the Black Knights, who dropped to 2-12-1.
St. Joseph scored three goals in the first period, four in the second and four more in the third.

graduate Julian Saad, a junior at Fordham, was named the Atlantic 10's Men's Indoor Track & Field Performer of the Week.
It marked the first time that Saad had earned the honor for indoor track, although he had previously won the award for cross county.
At the New Balance Collegiate Invitational on Saturday, Saad set a school record in the 3,000 meter championship race with a time of 8:13.88 that enabled him to qualify for the IC4A Championship later this season. It also was the top time in the Atlantic 10 this year.

The FCIAC wrestling championships are set for Friday and Saturday at New Canaan High School.
The event begins with the weigh-ins on Friday at 3 p.m., followed by the round of 16 matches of 4:30 p.m. and the quarterfinal bouts later in the evening.
The competition resumes on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the semifinals and consolation quarterfinals, to be followed by the consolation semifinals at 12 p.m. and the fifth-place and third-place matches at 2 p.m. The championship finals are set to begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Awards will be be given to the FCIAC East and West champions along with the most valuable wrestler, the most falls in least aggregate time and a sportsmanship winner. Finally, awards will be presented to the FCIAC tournament runner-up and champion.
In 2011, Danbury won its 24th FCIAC title in 25 years, defeating runner-up Greenwich by 50 points. Fairfield Warde finished third, followed by Trumbull, Stamford and Westhill.
The Hatters reclaimed the championship after Warde ended their 23-year title reign in 2010.
Danbury, which is 20-0 and ranked No. 1 in the state, is again considered the favorite to win the crown. Other contenders include Trumbull, which is ranked ninth in the Norwich Bulletin top 10 state coaches' poll, and Warde, which is 11th.
Trumbull senior Ben Anderson is the defending FCIAC champion in the 135-pound division.
