The St. Joseph boys basketball team is one step away from another appearance in the state finals.

After dispatching Ridgefield 56-37 on Monday, the top-seeded Cadets (23-1) will take on No. 5 seed New London in the Class LL semifinals on Wednesday at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven (7:30 p.m.).

It will be a rematch of a regular-season game won by St. Joseph 57-52 in December in the Northeast Christmas Classic.

Wednesday's game also is a battle of defending state champions as New London won the Class L title last year before making the jump to Class LL.

The Whalers advanced to Wednesday's game with a 79-73 double overtime victory over No. 4 seed Windsor.

In the other semifinal, No. 6 seed Fairfield Prep takes on No. 2 seed Hillhouse.

Last season, St. Joseph defeated the Jesuits 79-53 to win their first state championship since 2001 and 10th in school history.
