The boys basketball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class LL state tournament Thursday with a 77-59 win over No. 16 seed Cheshire.
The Cadets improved to 22-1 and will host No. 9 seed Ridgefield in the quarterfinals on Monday,
Ridgefield, the No. 9 seed, advanced with a 58-54 victory over No. 25 Simsbury.

Also on Thursday, the Trumbull boys basketball team fell to No. 10 seed Manchester, 66-56. The Eagles finished the season at 11-11.

Trumbull's Julian Saad, a junior at Fordham, set a school record with a time of 8:10:66 in the 3,000-meter run at the ECAC/IC4A Championship held last weekend at the Reggie Lewis Track & Field Center in Boston.
Saad, who finished sixth in the event, broke his previous school mark of 8:13.88 set last month
