Trumbull State Rep Devlin Votes in Favor of Transportation Fund Lock Box Referendum

The bill has quite a road to pass before potentially being put before state voters for a referendum.

State Rep. Laura Devlin (R-Fairfield, Trumbull) voted to support a bill that would lead to a referendum and possibly a constitutional amendment to make sure funds in the Special Transportation Fund be used solely for transportation purposes.

“Securing our state transportation dollars, will strengthen Connecticut’s economy by providing jobs while enhancing our infrastructure,” she said. “A sustained investment in transportation will ensure that Connecticut is tied effectively to the national and global economies and is valued for its transportation technology. Further, investments in infrastructure will help Connecticut to leverage its transportation system to compete for jobs, capital and talent.”

The bill will now head to the House of Representatives for a debate. The legislature must pass it by a super majority or two years in a row before it heads to Connecticut voters for a ballot vote.

The ballot question if passed would read:

“Shall the Constitution of the State be amended to ensure (1) that all money contained in the Special Transportation Fund be used solely for transportation purposes, including the payment of debts of the state incurred for transportation purposes, and (2) that all sources of funds required to be deposited in the Special Transportation Fund continue to be deposited in said fund?”
