Trumbull State Rep. Devlin Votes for Inspector General

The Office of Inspector General would have broad power to audit all levels of government in a search for waste and abuse.

The Government Administration and Elections Committee voted unimously to create a n indpendent Office of the Inspector General.

The office would have broad authority to conduct audits across all levels of government in a search for waste and abuse. It would be independent form politics and have subpoena power.

State Rep. Laura Devlin (R-Trumbull, Fairfield), who is a member of the committee said the office would allow for greater transparency.

“An independent investigator without allegiances to a political party is the most just way to look into any allegations of state government waste and abuses,” she said. “Let’s shed and reverse Connecticut’s negative public image by rooting out the problem.”

The bill go before the state House of Representatives for debate.
