Trumbull to Get 1 New Office Building; 1 More Possible

An office building was approved for 140 Monroe Tnpk. and another building plan could be filed for White Plains Road.

Vaman B. Kidambi will be allowed build a 10,600-square-foot, two-story office building and to tear down an existing building.

The developer will use an office in the building but no tenants are lined up yet.

"The site is well-suited for a two-story building," said David Bjorklund of Monroe-based Spath Bjorklund Associates Inc., an engineering firm.

"This is exactly what we've been looking for," said commission member Fred Garrity Jr., referring to reuse of an existing site.

Also, the Planning and Zoning Commission gave a pre-application review of an idea to tear down two homes at 843 and 847 White Plains Road. The two homes are owned by Thomas J. Whelan II, according to Visionappraisal.com.

The possible structure would still look like a home.

According to meeting minutes, the Greater Bridgeport Board of Realtors will occupy the ground floor with a tenant proposed for the second story.

"Mr. Bjorklund indicated that the GBBR will have offices for professional real estate training and development.  Day and evening classes would be held mainly on weekdays, with weekend classes a possibility. There will be one full time and 3 part-time employees on site on a regular basis," the commission noted.

A New Office and Changes to a Retail Center

Also, a new real estate office is planned for the former home of Paul's Haircutters at 6523 Main St., across from the Long Hill Green.

The owner was allowed to build a 977-square-foot, one-story rear addition.

Finally, With a Twist, LLC, and Prime 111, LLC were approved for liquor permits at 41 Monroe Tnpk. and 43 Monroe Tnpk. respectively. A retail center is being built on the site.

A Firestone tire center was eliminated from the design and replaced with a restaurant for the "breakfast/lunch crowd," said Attorney Ray Rizio, representing the developer.

The change increases the "walkability"of the retail center, said Jamie Bratt, Trumbull's director of Planning & Development.

"This is a better use of the property," said Attorney James Cordone, who represents the neighboring Woodland Hills Condominium Association.
