Trumbull's Herbst Talks About Text Incident on Chaz and AJ in the Morning

Herbst appeared on the popular morning talk show to talk about the incident that ended with a call from Capitol Police.

TRUMBULL, CT—Trumbull First Selectman Tim Herbst appeared on Chaz and AJ in the Morning on 99.1 WPLR to talk about how he was called by Capitol Police and told not to speak to State Rep. David Alexander following a text message.

Herbst texted Alexander a video clip from Dirty Harry movie “Sudden Impact” where Clint Eastwood’s character famously says, “Go ahead. Make my day,” while pointing a gun at a criminal suspect.

Alexander perceived the message as a threat and filed a report with Capitol Police who in turn contacted Herbst and told him to have no further contact with Alexander, according to the Hartford Courant.

In this day and age no one should joke about gun violence, Alexander told the Courant in a previous interview.

“The real threat is him on the road behind a steering wheel inebriated,” Herbst said, referring to Alexander’s two DUI charges within 18 months. “Quite frankly a person like that doesn’t belong in government.”

Herbst said that Alexander has never gotten over the fact that he beat him in Trinity College student government class president election. Now Herbst is targeting Alexander and other Democrats through his political action committee in an attempt to get more Republicans into the state legislature.

The text message was sent inadvertently to Alexander and was supposed to go to a friend, Herbst said. Show host Chaz pressed Herbst on whether the text was really sent inadvertently and Herbst said again it was a mistake.
