Trumbull's Pfohl Signs Letter of Intent with SCSU

Amanda Pfohl will attend and play basketball at Southern Connecticut State University.

Trumbull’s Amanda Pfohl recently signed a National Letter of Intent to attend and play basketball at Southern Connecticut State University next fall.

Pfohl joins fellow freshmen Erin Ryder (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown North) and Danbury’s Allie Smith as the incoming class who will play for Owls’ women’s basketball coach Bert DeSalvo.

Besides playing for their prospective high schools, both Pfohl and Smith played for the CBC AAU program.

“Amanda is a tremendous shooter with unlimited range but does much more than that,” DeSalvo said. “She is a coach’s daughter so she understands the game and will instantly increase our basketball IQ. Her size, toughness and overall fundamentals will be a great addition to our program. More importantly she loves basketball and will improve each and every day.

“Allie is an athletic player who will give us some much needed size and rebounding. More importantly, Allie makes basketball plays. She is the toughest player I saw on the AAU circuit this summer and is willing to do the dirty work to help her team win. “Her blue collar approach embodies our program’s philosophy.”

The final member of the trio, Ryder, played for the Hudson Valley Elite AAU program.

“Erin comes from one of the best AAU programs on the east coast,” DeSalvo said. “Erin gives our back line some much needed size and length as we look to make our roster bigger. Erin has a great work ethic, can stretch the floor and knows how to respond in pressure situations. Her mental toughness and workman-like approach will be a tremendous addition.”
