William Coleman: Former Trumbull High Social Worker

Coleman is also a WWII veteran and was an avid golfer and walker.

William Edward Coleman, husband of the late Betty (Tranberg) Coleman, died Friday, September 23, 2016. He was born in Bridgeport, January 5, 1926 to the late James and Gertrude (Lenahan) Coleman.

Bill was a graduate of Central High School, earned a BS degree in Business Administration from the University of Bridgeport, an MBA from New York University and an MSW from the University of Connecticut. He was Assistant Professor at Iona University and UB. He was also employed as a Social Worker for Trumbull High School where he exhibited a deep concern for each and every student he worked with. Bill served in the 2nd Marine Division, 8th Regiment in the Pacific during WWII. He was an avid golfer and walker. For many years Bill volunteered at the Pequot Library including the much anticipated book sales. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted dad and grandfather.

Survivors include two daughters, Karin Dina and her husband Rick of Santa Rosa, CA and Greer Drougge of Taby, Sweden; and two grandchildren, Ella and Sam Drougge. He was also predeceased by brothers, James and Robert Coleman and sisters, Beatrice Mulrenan, Maureen Murphy and Marilyn Coleman. Memorial service and burial will be private.

Arrangements are in the care of the FAIRFIELD FUNERAL HOME of EDMUND W. DOUGIELLO, 36 South Pine Creek Road. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Pequot Library, Southport, CT.
