Woman And Her Dog Rescued After Being Swept Away In Pequonnock River

TRUMBULL, CT — A woman and her dog were rescued in Trumbull Monday morning after getting swept away in the Pequonnock River, according to the Trumbull Police Department.
The woman was on the phone with her friend when her dog went into the river around 10:15 a.m., after which she followed the dog into the water to rescue it, police said.
Arriving officers heard the woman screaming for help and found her in the river near Twin Brooks Park, according to police.

"The river was high and fast moving due to recent flooding conditions, but she was able to keep her head just above the water as she was holding on to the vegetation," police said.
A Trumbull police officer and an off-duty firefighter pulled the woman to safety, and the woman was then evaluated by EMS but declined further treatment, according to police.

The dog was found safe downstream around Lindberg Drive after being heard barking in the area. It was safely reunited with its owner.
