2 Charged After Shots Fired In Vernon Dispute

Vernon police arrested a pair after shots were fired in a dispute Friday night.

VERNON, CT — Vernon police arrested two people after shots were fired in a dispute Friday night in the Rockville section of town.

Reports on the incident were released Monday. The incident took place at 8:40 p.m. at 92 West Main St., police said. Police were notified that shots had been fired.

A car was seen speeding from the scene and engaged an officer in a pursuit that ended with a Nissan Altima being stopped near Exit 65 on Interstate-84, police said.

Several shell casings were located behind 92 West Main St. but the gun is still being sought, police said.

The driver of the Altima, identified as 25-year-old Kaitlyn Marie Kessler, was charged with interfering, engaging police in a pursuit and possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana, according to a report. She is due in court on Dec. 10. She lives at the home where the altercation broke out, police said,

The passenger, identified as 22-year-old Maximo Smith, of Hartford, is the accused shooter, police said. Smith was charged with the illegal discharge of a firearm, possessing a gun without a permit, reckless endangerment, breach of peace and heroin possession, police said.

He was being held on a $60,000 bond and was to appear in court Monday, police said.
