2nd Serious Vernon Crash Wednesday Critically Injures Driver

VERNON, CT — A large truck and car collided on Route 30 in Vernon Wednesday night, seriously injuring the driver of the car, police said.

The crash took place at about 9:30 p.m. It was the second serious crash on a main artery through Vernon on Wednesdsay. Shortly after 3:30 p.m., a pedestrian died after being struck by a pickup truck on Route 83.

The Route 30 crash took place in the area of 1100 Hartford Turnpike, the local address for that stretch of the state road. The car collided with the tractor portion of a tractor-trailer, police said. It was not pulling a trailer, police said.

The driver of the car was brought to Hartford Hospital by ambulance and was in critical condition, police said.

Route 30 was closed while a reconstruction team responded, police said.
