VERNON, CT — A fire in a multi-family home in the Rockville section of Vernon Monday displaced seven people.

The fire at 114 Prospect St. broke out at 2:55 p.m., according to Vernon Fire Marshal Dan Wasilewski. It began in a first-floor bedroom, he said.

Firefighters from both Vernon and Tolland responded and were able to contain the blaze to the first floor, he said. The scene was secured in about an hour, officials said.

The home sits at the corner of Prospect and Oak streets and was built in 1900, Wasilewski said. He said the occupants of the second- and third-floor apartments were allowed back in the dwelling Monday evening, but the family living on the first floor had to be relocated.

Officials from the American Red Cross said four adults and three children were given assistance at the scene.
