Lines Finally In Place On Road Leading To Schools In Vernon (patch.com) — Vernon drivers heading to Center Road School and Vernon Center Middle School will now see freshly painted lines after weather delays pushed back the road project on Center Road. Town public works crews even hand-painted critical markings before school buses rolled, ensuring safer crosswalks and lane guides for the first day of classes.
2. Vernon To Mark 25th Anniversary Of 9/11 Terror Attacks (patch.com) — Vernon residents are invited to a 25th-anniversary 9/11 remembrance ceremony Friday morning at Fox Hill Tower in Henry Park, with a rain location at the pavilion. The observance joins national memorials in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania, honoring the nearly 3,000 victims and first responders lost in the attacks.
3. Vernon Police Dog Uncovers Drugs, Weapon In Car, After Loud Music Complaint At Apartment Complex (patch.com) — Vernon police responding to a loud music complaint at a South Street apartment complex ended up finding crack cocaine, ecstasy pills, drug paraphernalia, and a Taser in a gold Honda Accord. A 49‑year‑old resident was charged with drug and illegal weapon possession after police canine Boone alerted to narcotics in the car.
4. Persistent Public Poopers Wanted For Questioning By Vernon Animal Control (patch.com) — Vernon officials are looking for a man who repeatedly lets two off‑leash dogs defecate on other people's property without cleaning up, violating the town's animal waste ordinance. Animal Control shared a photo and phone number, reminding residents that each offense can bring a $90 fine and that daily violations can add up quickly.
5. A CT foundation is donating $630K to a wide swathe of organization. What it targets. (courant.com) — Vernon residents will benefit from a $10,000 grant to the Vernon Community Network as part of $630,000 in basic‑needs funding awarded by the Greater Hartford Gives Foundation. The money supports food, personal care, emergency aid, and other services across 38 nonprofits, targeting communities with higher poverty and aiming to reduce barriers to essentials like healthy food and shelter.
