• Vernon Police Begin Series Of Active Shooter Training Exercises At Elementary School (patch.com) — Vernon residents may notice a heavy police presence at Skinner Road School as officers conduct evening active threat and shooter response drills on several dates through early October. Police stress there is no emergency and ask people to avoid the school grounds during training, which is designed to improve response if a real threat ever occurs.
   

• Vernon Cops Make Bust At Motel Known 'For Drug Sales' (patch.com) — Vernon police recently arrested a Tolland man after stopping his car outside the Vernon Motel on Hartford Turnpike, an area officers describe as prone to drug activity. Officers say they found crack cocaine and smoking pipes after a traffic violation stop, and the driver is due in Rockville Superior Court on related charges.
