1. Absentee Ballot Applications Available for Nov. 3 Election in Vernon (patch.com) — Vernon voters now have several convenient options to cast ballots in the Nov. 3, 2026 election, including no‑excuse absentee voting and an extended early voting schedule at 375 Hartford Turnpike. Residents can obtain absentee ballot applications from the Town Clerk's Office, by phone, or online, with ballots available starting Oct. 5 and regular polling places open on Election Day.
2. Vernon Pet Pantry Collects 1,900 Pounds of Pet Food After Urgent Appeal (patch.com) — Vernon's Pet Pantry has rebounded from near-empty shelves after an urgent call for help brought in about 1,900 pounds of dog and cat food in just two weeks. With collection bins across Vernon and nearby towns, organizers urge residents to keep donating so local families can continue to feed their pets despite rising living costs.
3. DOT wants rumble strips on Vernon road. Mayor says the noise isn't worth it. (nhregister.com) — State transportation officials want to add centerline rumble strips on West Street in Vernon, but the mayor is pushing back over concerns about noise for nearby residents. With dozens of crashes recorded on that stretch, DOT says the strips are a proven safety tool and has scheduled a virtual public meeting on Oct. 27 so Vernon residents can weigh in.
4. Vernon Funeral Director Accused Of Gambling Away 170 People's Money Accepts Prison Deal (dailyvoice.com) — A Vernon funeral director has accepted a plea deal that could send him to prison for seven and a half years after authorities say he gambled away money from more than 170 prepaid funeral contracts. Vernon police uncovered suspected fraud tied to Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, with losses stretching back years and affecting families in Vernon and nearby towns. Residents who believe they were victims are being urged to submit written statements.
