Bank in Vernon Hosting Video Competition for Students

Students ages 13 to 18 must create a video, no more than 90 seconds, on saving and using money wisely.

VERNON, CT — Farmington Bank has announced it is hosting a video competition about the importance of savings for teenage students in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Farmington Bank will select one winning video from each state to be showcased on their website and YouTube page. Plus, each winner will be awarded a $100 Visa® gift card. The winning videos selected by Farmington Bank will then be submitted to the national competition called Lights, Camera, Save! Video Contest, organized by the American Bankers Association Foundation.

Farmington Bank will host the first round of judging, then submit the two videos in the national round in which the top three winners will receive a cash prize of $1,000, $2,500 and $5,000 respectively from the American Bankers Association Foundation to fund their savings goals. In addition, each winner’s school will receive a scholarship for a teacher to attend the 2017 Jump$tart National Educator Conference.

Lights, Camera, Save! is a national, bank-driven competition that encourages teens to use video to communicate the value of saving and inspire others to become lifelong savers.

"Lights, Camera, Save! is an opportunity for teens to harness their creativity, learn about using money wisely and communicate those lessons with their peers," said Christine Traczyk, Farmington Bank vice president and community development manager. "We understand the importance of financial education and are thrilled to participate in a contest that helps build a generation of smart money managers.”

To participate in the video contest, students ages 13 to 18 must create a video, no more than 90 seconds, on saving and using money wisely. Submitted videos will be judged on their quality, message, content and the criteria set forth by the contest's official rules.

The student video and completed entry form must be submitted to Farmington Bank by December 1, 2016. Farmington Bank will select one winning video from each state by December 16, 2016 and showcase them on the Bank’s website and YouTube page. Then, Farmington Bank will submit the winning videos to the American Bankers Association Foundation for the national round. The national round winners will be announced by the American Bankers Association in late February.
