Car Carrying Child Hit by Exhaust Pipe on I-84 in Vernon

A car was stuck by a flying metal exhaust pipe on Interstate-84 on Saturday.

VERNON, CT — Two adults and a child suffered minor injuries when their car was stuck by a flying metal exhaust pipe on Interstate-84 on Saturday, state police said.

The crash took place at 1:05 p.m.

Three Vernon residents — a 39-year-old woman, a 21-year-old man and a 4-year-old girl — were traveling in a 2008 Toyota Corolla on the westbound side of I-84, just prior to Exit 66, when the car was hit by what state police said on a report was a "large metal exhaust pipe."

The child was in a car seat and the adults had seat belts on, according to a report.

State police did not say in a report where the exhaust pipe may have come from.
