Crack Stash Discovered After Vernon Stop Sign Violation

A stop sign violation in Vernon on Wednesday night led to the discovery of a crack stash inside a car.

VERNON, CT — A stop sign violation on Wednesday night led to the discovery of a crack stash inside a car in the Rockville section of Vernon, police said.

At 8:42 p.m., a Vernon police officer on routine patrol noticed an Acura sedan go through a stop sign. He pulled the car over at 20 Main St., inside a shopping plaza, and the driver, 41-year-old Trevis James of East Hartford, then failed a series of field sobriety tests, according to a report.

James was also in possession of 23 bags of crack cocaine and less than a half-ounce of marijuana, according to a report.

He also did not have a valid driver's license, according to a report.

James was subsequently charged with:

  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Possession with the intent to sell
  • Driving under the influence
  • Failure to obey a stop sign
  • Failure to drive in the poroper lane
  • Driving without a license

He was held overnight on a $100,000 bond and was to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Thursday, according to a report.
