Discount Store In Rockville Brings 'Treasure Hunt' Concept To Vernon

VERNON, CT — Another discount store has opened in the Rockville section of Vernon and it brings with it a "treasure hunt" concept.

Deals on Wheels on June 7 opened in the plaza at 20 Main St. It has taken over a four-year vacancy that once housed a business legend in town — Ladd & Hall furniture. Ladd & Hall closed in September 202o after serving as a pillar of commerce in the area since 1937.

According to a Deals on Wheels profile, the store serves as a "reimagined retail shopping experience." Deals on Wheels offers new, brand-name products with an inventory based on overstock and liquidation acquisitions "from the biggest retailers in the nation."

Thursday is re-stock day and the store is closed and discounts progress as the schedule advances. Specials include Fridays $12; Saturdays $10; Sundays $8; Mondays $5; Tuesdays $3; and Wednesdays $1.

According to the store profile, new products are delivered every week.

"No confusion ... no gimmicks," the store profile says. "Everything goes on the tables and is sold at the corresponding price for that. We recommend you get here early so you can be the first through the door to treasure hunt."

Deals on Wheels is the second discount store to recently open in that corner of East Main, right on the bus line and within walking distance to several densely populated neighborhoods. Dollar General recently took over a pair of longtime vacancies with a new free-standing building at 38 and 42 East Main St.
