Fiery Crash Leaves 1 Dead, Closes I-84 In Vernon, State Police Say
A deadly accident involving two tractor-trailers has closed the highway for an extended period.
VERNON, CT — A driver is dead following a fiery crash involving two tractor-trailers on I-84 in Vernon, state police said.
The accident occurred on the eastbound side of the highway at 11:26 p.m. Wednesday, according to the state Department of Transportation.
One tractor trailer was parked on the shoulder when it was struck by a second tractor trailer. This led to the second vehicle "becoming engulfed in flames," state police said.

One driver was confirmed dead. Identification is pending through the state Medical Examiner’s Office.
I-84 eastbound remains closed at exit 66, with traffic backing up to exit 64.

"The highway is expected to remain closed for an extended period to allow for cleanup and ongoing investigation," state police said.
