Foundation Testing For Vernon/Stafford/Ellington Taking Shape
A major announcement was made Friday about a regional crumbling foundation testing program for Vernon, Stafford and Ellington residents.

VERNON/STAFFORD/ELLINGTON, CT — A major announcement was made Friday about a regional crumbling foundation testing program for Vernon, Stafford and Ellington residents.
Vernon Mayor Daniel A. Champagne said that the Hartford-based structural and civil engineering firm Macchi Engineers LLC, has been selected as the contractor for the regional crumbling foundation testing and reporting program.
Funding for the program is provided by the Connecticut Department of Housing Community Development Block Grant, and enables qualifying residents of Vernon, Ellington,

and Stafford to have concrete foundations examined by a professional engineer for the presence of pyrrhotite.
"Owning a home provides a sense of safety and security," Champagnesaid. "The residents of eastern Connecticut are facing the financial and emotional stress that their concrete foundations may contain pyrrhotite. The selection of an experienced structural engineering firm allows us to begin core testing for qualified homeowners.”

Vernon, Ellington and Stafford officials have slated an informational meeting on Wednesday Oct. 2, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. in the Vernon Town Hall Council Chambers, 14 Park Place.
The meeting will offer information on the program as well as the opportunity to meet with representatives from the towns and Macchi Engineering.
This free event is open to homeowners of Vernon, Ellington, and Stafford. Registration
is not required.
"The town of Ellington is pleased to partner with Vernon and Stafford to provide relief for those affected by crumbling foundations. I encourage affected and interested people to attend the public information session. Communities working together reinforces our capacity to assist residents who are coping with this crisis," said Lori Spielman, the first selectman of Ellington.
Stafford First Selectman Mary Mitta added, "I am pleased to see that this joint effort to assist our residents has brought us one step closer in the foundation core testing process. We want to assure our residents that we will continue to work together, moving forward, in getting the homes tested."
