Hurricane Sandy: Compared to the Snowtober Police Calls, It Barely Caused a Stir

Snowtober had three times more calls than Sandy.

So …

So …

The question had to be asked.

How does Sandy in October 2012 compare to Snowtober of 2011?

Well, Lt. William Meier of the Vernon Police Department looked it up - at least in terms of calls into the dispatch desk.

On Monday at 9 p.m., Vernon police had fielded 65 calls, which put them on pace to receive 80.

Rewind to the winter storm. by midnight on Oct, 29, 2011, Vernon had taken 273 calls that were assigned case numbers. Between 4 and 8 p.m. that day, 147 came in.

No arrests were made as of 10 p.m. on Monday. The list of closed roads barely made 10 over the course of the day.

So how many will be fielded today?

"It will take a lot to reach the 2011 total," Meier said.

Indeed, there were 244 calls on Oct. 30, 2011.
