Letter: Marmer Outlines Her Mayoral Platform

A former mayor is running for mayor again.

To Editor:

When I was asked to serve this community as mayor, I was thoughtful about pursuing the office which I left 10 years ago. The town has been a dedication of mine and my late husband, Dr. Harold O. Shapiro, for the 48 years we have set up home.

There are many issues which need to be addressed. The basics are Rockville General Hospital, safety concerns for our seniors and their senior housing developments, improving our school system so families will once again move into the area.

I have been actively involved with Youth sports, the High School, the Arts Center and the Strong Family Farm, as well as, the Community Child Guidance Clinic over my 10 years out of politics. We utilized $230,000 of tax payer money to buy a piece of property which has been on the market for 26 years and cannot accommodate any building. We need to dispense with closed door contracts and gag orders for town employees.

There does not appear to be any commitment to the Rockville public library or Social Service organizations by having their finances slashed. The $230,000 would have gone a long way buttressing those areas. These are only a few of the outstanding issues.

I am very grateful for the positive feedback I am getting from our residents and businesses. I am more than willing to serve and continue my commitments to all of us. I ask for your support on Nov. 7, 2017.

Ellen L. Marmer, M.D.
