Manchester Man Charged in Connection With the Death of a Vernon Woman

Police say the accused allegedly hit the Vernon woman with his vehicle in July.

Vernon Police arrested and charged a Manchester man with negligent homicide after he allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian with his car in July.

The fatal crash occurred on the morning of July 2 on Hyde Avenue, also known as State Route 30. Robert Maly, 66, was traveling eastbound when he struck Kathleen Jasak, 58, as she crossed the street, according to police.

Vernon Police issued a warrant for Maly’s arrest and he turned himself in.

He was charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, which is a misdemeanor charge. He was also charged with failure to drive right, passing on the right, operating a motor vehicle with unsafe tires and failure to avoid a pedestrian.

He was held in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
