Manslaughter Charge Filed In Fatal Vernon Car Vs. Motorcycle Crash

VERNON, CT — A Hartford man who police said left the scene of a fatal crash on Prospect Street in Vernon late last month has been charged with manslaughter and other crimes.

On Wednesday, Vernon police arrested Jahmarcus McCatty, 20, of Hartford, for his involvement in the Feb. 27 crash, police said.

Vernon officers, along with the Hartford Police Violent Crimes Unit, the Hartford Police Emergency Response Team, the Hartford Police Fugitive Task Force and the Hartford Police Auto Theft task force, served a search warrant on a home in the city.

Authorities located McCatty inside and served him the warrant out of Vernon.

The warrant charged McCatty with first-degree manslaughter, evading responsibility resulting in death, following too closely, evading responsibility causing physical injury, second-degree larceny, possessing stolen license plates, failure to wear a seat belt, reckless driving, misuse of a license plate, illegal racing on a roadway, failure to obey a stop sign and making an improper turn.

McCatty was held in lieu of a $1,000,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior
Court on Friday.

McCatty also faces charges in Hartford as a result of the search warrant, police said.

The crash took place at 3:48 p.m. on Feb. 27. It involved a white 2018 Infiniti Q50, and police said -McCatty was identified as the driver. The motorcycle, a 2008 Harley Davidson, was being operated by James Faulkner, 25, of Vernon. Faulkner was transported to Rockville General Hospital shortly after the crash, and was pronounced dead, according to police.

Also involved were two parked vehicles, a 2005 Subaru Legacy and a 2015 Kia Optima, police said.

Vernon police had been actively looking for McCatty since the crash.
