Mayor Champagne: Daniels Mill Cleanup Grant Important for Vernon

The grant will help clean-up Daniels Mill.

Vernon Mayor Daniel Champagne said the recent state grant that will help clean up Daniels Mill will go a long way in helping the town clean-up its remaining Brownfield sites.

The town received a $300,000 grant through the Historic Brownfield Revitalization program to help clean-up the old mill. It is near the Amerbelle site, which will become the new home of 1st Alliance Lending.

The grant was distributed through the Department of Economic and Community Development.

“Brownfield redevelopment is a top priority for Vernon” said Champagne, “and I am appreciative of DECD’s continued support that enables Vernon keep this commitment,” he said. “We intend to be good stewards of our milling legacy and recognize the need to make our mills viable for 21st century industries to come, and grow.”

To date Vernon has been awarded $2.9 million to clean-up its Brownfield sites.

“Daniels Mill was the first of three mills constructed by Albert Dart, and is located adjacent to the Amerbelle site,” said Champagne. “Historically and esthetically, they remain connected and their reunification as one parcel is critical to the substantive development of downtown Rockville as we anticipate the relocation of 1st Alliance Lending”.
