VERNON, CT — A batch of decorative mulch caught fire a bank's drive-through lanes in Vernon on Thursday afternoon.

The fire broke out at about 3:10 at the drive-through lanes at the 6 Pitkin Road United Bank branch, police said.

It was all but out when emergency crews arrived, police said, but it created quite a stir nevertheless and firefighters stayed around for a while to make sure the fire didn't start back up.
