New Task Force to Take Aim at Vernon-area Missing Girl Cases

The new task force is expected to be announced later this week and will look at the missing cases which span from 1968 to 1974.

A new task force that will look into the disappearance of three Vernon-area girls from 1968 to 1974 is expected to be announced later this week.

The Chief State’s Attorney’s office has hired Michael Foley, a retired state police detective who investigated the missing girls’ cases for years, as a consultant, the Hartford Courant reports. The FBI is also expected to add its own assistance, but won’t assign an agent to the case.

Debra Spickler disappeared in 1968 at the age of 13. Janice Pockett was last seen in Tolland in 1973 at the age of seven. Lisa White went missing in Rockville in 1974, according to the Courant.

A memorial dedicated to White will be unveiled on Nov. 1 in a park near the courthouse in Rockville.

The three cases drew attention last year after the body of a middle-aged woman was found in Vernon. Police ruled out the three cases after comparing the DNA of relatives with that of the found body. To date the body hasn’t been identified.
