Offseason Capital Projects On Tap At 3 Vernon Schools
The summer construction period has begun at Vernon school properties.

VERNON, CT — Three significant capital improvement projects are on tap for the summer at three Vernon schools.
The biggest project, according to Vernon Superintendent of Schools Joseph Macary, involves a new roof at Center Road School, the largest of the town's five elementary schools. The project has been targeted on the school system's capital plan for some time.
The cost of the project is about $1.2 million and 68 percent of that is designated for state reimbursement, Macary said. The town's capital non-recurring account of fronting the cost, he said.

A short distance away, Vernon Department of Public Works crews have already begun upgrading the drainage system at the Vernon Center Middle School baseball field. Trenches were being dug out and piles of stone were awaiting the crews in the parking lot.
The VCMS team played at Henry Park this past season because of a tendency for the campus field to remain soggy after rain.

All the work is being performed in-house during regular shifts, Macary said.
At Rockville High School, the assortment of smaller athletic equipment sheds will be replaced by one larger shed, Macary said.
The new shed will be located near the tennis courts at the RHS stadium.
The cost is about $100,000 and funds left over from the artificial turf budget hill be used. The new shed will measure about 60-by-40 feet.
