Old Vernon Police Evidence Photos: Where was that Scene?

Vernon Police have made available old pictures from old incident calls ... Click on the story to see where it is.

VERNON, CT — Staffers in the Vernon Police Records Division are in the midst of sorting through some old evidence photos.

Some of the photos are original 8-by-10 glossies taken with the large cameras of way back when with the large flash bulb attachments. Others are copies that were made (the original glossies are who knows where) and attached to reports.

Do you know where it is this week?

This time, it's the intersection of route 30 and 31, looking toward Tolland on Route 30, circa 1959. A quick zoom-in will indicate that gas was about two bucks cheaper per gallon back then.

The barn in the background is probably a remnant of the Town Farm which was located on that site. The farm was designed to help those who were down on their luck.

The newest car in photo is a Rambler, either from 1958 or 1959 model (there was little difference from one year to the next).

The two older children in the photo are carrying their books (no backpacks back then) as well as their musical instrument cases.

Records Supervisor and former VPD veteran Brian Smith thinks it is a picture from an old accident investigation or traffic monitioring.
