Our Town: Ideas On A Tasty Chick Revival And New Faces In Vernon

Our Town: A look at some of the things that make Vernon a great place to live.

VERNON, CT — Reviving some old fixtures in town like Tasty Chick or Connecticut Golf Land and targeting (was that a hint?) the Exit 67 area for some fresh new business faces were just some of the ideas thrown around on the Vernon Patch Facebook page Thursday.

The question posed was age-old and simple, but it's one that never gets stale:

"With Wendy's almost ready to open, what else would everyone like to see in town and, if possible, where could that be located in Vernon?"

The 109 responses just before midnight — 12 hours after the post — were a testament to that.

So what did folks have to say? Right off the bat, the area near the Exit 67, Interstste-84 interchange became a topic of discussion. Some residents suggested a full-size supermarket and others a big box establishment and reminded us of the ill-fated attempts by companies like Walmart and Home Depot to set up shop in Vernon. The consensus was give it another shot.

The vacant parcel on Route 83 where a Chevrolet dealership used to stand was a popular tract as well.

Mini golf, a Par 3 course, ice cream and a musical theater were popular suggestions for leisure time. Those with dogs endorsed the concept of a canine park, something already being explored in Vernon.

A brew house was a popular suggestion. Another resident who said he was not a beer drinker added a distillery to the discussion.

There was a general consensus that there is enough fast food places in town, but the red carpet would be rolled out for Arby's or Roy Rogers.

And Sonic and Chick-fil-A too.

Oh, one more thing. A sentimental choice was to bring back, in some form, Tasty Chick, that popular mom-and-pop fried food joint that used to grace the intersection of Regan Road and Route 83. In the editor's humble opinion, that can certainly go to the top of the list.
