Picture Vernon: Adventure Under The Overpass

The latest Installment of the Picture Vernon series.

(Manchester Historcial Society)

VERNON, CT — The latest installment of the Picture Vernon series takes us to the great adventure under the overpass in 1971.

It was on Aug. 26 of that year at Vernon Circle, the spot where Interstate-84 travels over Route 83. A truck transporting what is described as a 70,000-pound propane tank needed to get under the overpass with just and inch-and-a-half to spare.

It sort of looks like a submarine in the photo.
