Picture Vernon: Steamers On The Snip
The latest installment of the Picture Vernon series takes to the lake.
VERNON, CT — The latest installment of the Picture Vernon series takes us to the section of Shenipsit Lake in Rockville in the early 1900s.
It's now a reservoir serving the Connecticut Water coverage area, but back then, it was open for recreation in the form of steam-powered boats carrying passengers on pleasure cruises.
The black-and-white photo was loaned by Bill Marley to the book, "The 200th Anniversary of Vernon-Rockville." The color image shows the lake now. Notice how dressed-up the passengers were.
