Picture Vernon — A Taxing Situation, Then and Now
The latest installment of the Picture Vernon series.

VERNON, CT — The latest installment of the Picture Vernon series takes us to Downtown Rockville and the Henry Building in the late 1960s. It depicts a taxing situation that still is in a different way.
The photo is featured in the book, "Images of America ... Vernon-Rockville in the Twentieth Century." Workers are shown moving stuff out of the Old Rockville Savings And Loan branch after the builing was condemned.
In 1970, the First Federal Savings and Loan Association of East Hartford opened a new building there after it merged with Rockville Savings and Loan.

In the 1990s, the town acquired the building and the old drive-up window became a relay point for residents to pay their taxes.
