Picture Vernon: When Trolley Rules The Streets
A look back at a trendy transportation mode in Vernon.

VERNON, CT — The latest edition of the Picture Vernon Series takes us back to 1898, when trolley service was introduced.
Pictured on a postcard is one of the trolley cars heading toward the center of the Rockville section of Vernon at the foot of Prospect Street, approaching the Fitton Hose Co. Firehouse.
What is now the Cornerstone Foundation clothing bank is partially hidden to the left of the firehouse, which is still a firehouse today. In the background is the old Amerbelle factory.
