Pink Bag Pickups Return To Vernon

Pink bag pickups are back in Vernon and mulch is now available at the transfer station.

VERNON, CT — The pink bag collections are back in Vernon after being suspended over coronavirus concerns.

Vernon officials said this week that, effective immediately, Simple Recycling will resume picking up pink bags for Vernon residents. The bags are to be left at the curb on normal recycling collection days, on the ground, and at least 3 feet away from the refuse and recycling containers.

  • Fill the bag ... Acceptable items include clothing, shoes, jewelry, purses, toys, blankets, curtains, pillows, sleeping bags, tools, silverware, dishes, pots & pans and backpacks
  • Residents should put the bags out by 7:30 a.m. on regular recycling collection days. Bags do not go into recycling containers
  • The Simple Recycling drivers will pick up your bags and leave replacement bags behind

  • Due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus, the Capital Region East Operating Committee, made up of the towns of Glastonbury, Hebron, Manchester, Marlborough, Somers, South Windsor, Stafford and Vernon, has decided to cancel the hazardous waste collection scheduled for May 2 in Manchester
  • The Vernon Public Works Department will deliver a 4-cubic-yard load of mulch (if available) for $60. Mulch will be delivered onto driveways only at a location clearly marked by the resident. Interested parties should call the Public Works Office at 860-870-3500 to schedule a delivery. Mulch will continue to be available at the transfer station to Vernon residents free of charge. A permit and punchcard are not required. The transfer station is located on Hockanum Boulevard and is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.
