Revival Of Vernon's Vintage Citizens Block Hits Next Phase
Vernon's Citizens Block is slowly coming back to life.

VERNON, CT — Town officials this week broke ground on the second phase of bringing the circa 1879 Citizens Block building in Downtown Rockville back to life.
The abatement of all hazardous materials and the cleanup of the interior were completed some time, but the coronavirus pandemic put off the next round of renovations, Vernon mayor Daniel Champagne said.
That was until Wednesday, when ground was broken behind the building to kick off Phase 2. The work will prime with building with a new entrance, a modernize the stairwell and install an elevator. The rear of the building will also be stabilized to make up for years of water damage, officials said.
