Rockville Bank Begins Lafayette Branch Transition
Vice President swings into Lafayette branch conversion with a sledgehammer.
When it comes to the Lafayette branch, er branches, Rockville Bank Executive Vice President Rick Trachimowicz hasn't been fooling around.
In March, he predicted that the temporary branch in the old Tim Horton's, would be completed in a month. It took two weeks to convert the former coffee and doughnut shop to a bank.
And it looks like a bank.
And on Tuesday, Trachimowicz made a bank look like a pile of crumbs when he personally swung a sledgehammer into the door and windows of the former Lafayette Square branch building to signal the start of demolition work on that office.
The demolition is the first step of Rockville Bank’s project to build a new Lafayette Square branch at the same location, 20 Hyde Avenue, in Vernon. On Jan. 14, Rockville Bank had to close the office because of structural damage related to record heavy snow sitting on the rooftop.
In early March, Rockville Bank announced plans to build a new state-of-the-art branch on the original site. The temporary branch at the former Tim Horton's is just down Route 30 from that address. The doughnut counter has been replaced by teller windows. There is no drive-up window or ATM.
The new full-service Lafayette Square branch is expected to open in late fall. It will include four teller-counter stations, two drive-up teller windows and a drive-up and walk-up automatic teller machine.
It will feature customer-convenience items like a coin counting machine, document shredder, and a flat-panel LCD video screen that will provide customers with news, weather, sports and business information.
The branch also will feature a refreshment center, offering complimentary beverages and cookies.
Just what Trachimowicz will do at the opening has not been announced.
Stay tuned.
