Rockville High School Creative Writers Shine in UConn Competition

The RHS students took home the top two prizes.

VERNON, CT — Two students in the Rockville High School creative writing program took home major honors at the 2017 University of Connecticut's Wallace Stevens Poetry Contest.

The first-place winner was Mechelle Horelick and the second-place winner was Joyce Hida.

Both students will be honored at a ceremony on March 8 in UConn's Konover Auditorium.

Horelick will receive a $300 prize and will read one of her winning pieces during the poetry program featuring poet A.E. Stallings.

Hida will receive a $150 prize and an autographed copy of Stallings' book.
