VERNON, CT — For the second time in seven days, Rockville High School received a threatening e-mail that was quickly determined to be a "hoax."

In a message sent to parents just after 4 p.m. Wednesday, RHS administrators said the message was discovered after school had let out for the day. The tone was threatening and "very similar" to the one sent as students were reporting for classes the day before Thanksgiving.

This time, though, just a relative few students were in the building for sports and other after-school activities.

"Immediately, we contacted Vernon police and fire departments to respond to RHS to assess the situation," the message stated. "Based on their initial investigation, it was determined the message was a hoax."

As a precaution, school staff members and first responders checked the areas where students and coaches were located, school officials said. Students remained supervised and inside the secured areas while the outside grounds and all interior areas of the building were checked, school officials said.

"At this time, there is no concern to the security and safety of our staff and students," the message said. "All after-school and evening activities are on as scheduled. The safety and security of our students and staff is our highest priority."

The threatening message sent last week was discovered just before 7 a.m. and caused most of the students to be turned around and sent home with the option of returning. Just a smattering of students remained in school that day. It was a scheduled half-day of school heading into the Thanksgiving break.
