Rockville High School Staff Makes A Fashion Statement On First Day
Vernon has 3,200 students on the nose for the start of the 2024-25 academic year.

VERNON, CT — The faculty and staff at Rockville High School certainly made a fashion statement Thursday as for the first day of the 2024-25 academic year.
All had on team shirts.
RHS Principal Jason Magao was looking particularly dapper with the slate gray Rockville High School shirt underneath a tan summer suit.

"It does look pretty good," he quipped.
He said the idea was to have teachers, administrators and academic staff members wear them to promote a sense of community, something he emphasizes often at RHS.

Magao did receive several compliments during the morning drop-off procession as he greeting everyone on the sidewalk.
Also fashionable at RHS this year are the fully renovated science labs. The school also had an upgraded pre-school area at the consumer sciences area waiting for students. The program is offered to students who want to apply real-life education experience to a prospective education major in college. Several pre-school students spend the year at RHS.
A lot of painting was done at RHS and the sprinkler system on the baseball field has been refurbished.
Superintendent of Schools Joseph Macary said there are 35 new teachers in the Vernon system, including three new posts created because of an extra large fifth-grade class.
"I'm excited about new blood of f teachers coming here to work in district," Macary said.

Vernon is starting the school year with 3.200 students on the nose. RHS has 994 enrolled and Vernon Center Middle School is checking in with 663. The five elementary schools make up the balance of 1,543 students.
Macary described they first day as, "calm, focused and quiet."
