Rockville High School Student Places High in Major State Poetry Event

It was Connecticut's 13th-annual Poetry Out Loud State Finals.

VERNON, CT — Rockville High School junior Tanner Bosse was named first runner-up in Connecticut's 13th-annual Poetry Out Loud State Finals competition on Saturday at Cheney Hall in Manchester.

During the state finals, 39 contestants from high schools across the state recited works they selected from an online anthology of more than 900 classic and contemporary poems.

Bosse received $100 and another $200 went to Rockville High School for the purchase of poetry books.

The state finals were part of Poetry Out Loud, a national program that encourages high school students to learn about poetry through memorization, performance and competition. Beginning at the classroom level, winners advance to the school-wide competition, then progress to the state finals and ultimately to the national finals in Washington, D.C.
