Rockville Library's Book Discussion Series Set to Resume
"Honored Enemy" is the subject of the Sept. 13 opener.

The monthly book discussion series is scheduled to resume at the Rockville Public Library next month.
The library isolated at 52 Union St.
On Sept. 13 at 6:00 p.m., author Culver Modisette, who lives in Somers, is scheduled to lead the discussion on his book, “Honored Enemy,” a moving historical novel about Quanah Parker, an actual person who was born of a white mother taken in a raid.
He became the leader of the Comanche, Kiowa and Cheyenne nations and led their struggle against the United States Fourth Cavalry to preserve tribal homelands.
Modisette said that the message he tries to convey in his book is the outrageous treatment that Native Americans received as the United States expanded westward.
The story is filled with dramatic characters, and Modisette provides a list of those who are fictional and those who are real.
Modisette grew up enjoying outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and wilderness camping, and he became an Alaskan guide for canoe expeditions into the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge where he became familiar with the Athabaskan people of Alaska.
His experience with the Native Americans spurred his growing interest in American Indian culture and history.
Modisette plans to open his talk with a brief slide viewing that will lead into the discussion of “Honored Enemy.” Those who attend can ask questions.
