VERNON, CT — The popular single burnable item drop-offs are returning to the Vernon Transfer Station.

Vernon residents can drop off a single burnable item (wood and upholstered furniture, plastic/resin outdoor furniture, etc.) at the Transfer Station free of charge on Feb. 2, Feb. 5 and Feb. 6. Mattresses and boxsprings do not qualify.

Permits and punchcards are not required, but proof of Vernon residency must be shown.

Other items that may regularly be dropped off at the Transfer Station free of charge are waste motor oil and antifreeze, electronics (including televisions), lead acid batteries, and any item that is at least 75 percent metal. Disposal of freon units would require a permit and punchcard.

In addition, excess trash and recycling may be dropped off free of charge, year-round.

Normal hours for the Transfer Station on Hockanum Boulevard are Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.
