“Nicole Ciampa is gaining more and more confidence,” said Hartmann. “She is also improving with each match and she is a real competitor.”
A tough match between Maloney’s Danielle Sweigard and Rockville’s Julie Granger went the distance in taking three sets to decide it. Sweigard eventually won but the sets were 6-7, 6-4, and 6-4.
Rockville (4-5) will next play at Bloomfield on Monday.
On Thursday, Rockville played E.O. Smith and lost by a score of 6-1.
Once again, Granger fought hard in her match against Sabiha Madosualla but lost in three sets 1-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Hannah Hilton also battled hard in her match with E.O. Smith’s Katie Brevnik but eventually lost in her match 6-4, 6-3.
Ciampa scored the lone win for Rockville when she defeated Carolyn Brown 6-2, 6-3.
On Wednesday, Rockville defeated East Hartford 5-2 in East Hartford.
Hilton, Granger, and Ciampa won their matches in singles competition. Sara Shane and Meagan Leopard got their first win of the year as doubles by a score of 6-1, 7-6. Cutting and Weston also got a win in their match by winning 6-0, 6-0.
Hartmann was extremely happy for the duo of Leopard and Shane when they got their win.
“It was their first win of the year and I believe the first win for either of them ever,” said Hartmann. “The second set tie breaker could have gone either way, but both Sara and Meagan made some great shots, and when they were down set point several times they managed to win the point. The excitement on their faces when they won the match was so rewarding to see. They really fought hard to win their match.”
Meagan Donahue went to three sets with East Hartford’s Ashley Cloney but Cloney eventually won 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
Hartmann has really been impressed with her team thus far into the season.
“It seems the girls are getting it together mid season,” said Hartmann. “They have already done more than I expected for such an inexperienced team.”
