Trails to be Closed on Mondays at Dinosaur State Park

The move is budget-related.

ROCKY HILL, CT - At Dinosaur State Park, the museum grounds and trails will be closed on Mondays as part of budget-cutting efforts by the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The museum there has been closed Mondays, but there has previously been access to the grounds on that day.

According to DEEP Commissioner Robert Klee, the organization is, "taking steps to reduce operating expenses at state parks by using resources more efficiently and focusing on the days and times of greatest public use of park campgrounds, beaches, museums, and nature centers."

A series of cutbacks is designed to eliminate about $1.8 million from the cost of operating the state park system and help the DEEP "achieve the overall savings required by the state budget for the upcoming fiscal year,” Klee said.

DEEP officials begin to "roll out adjustments" in the days and hours of facilities operations and in services soon after July 4, he said.
