Traveler Seeking Coffee, Dozes, Hits Vernon Resident's SUV: Report

VERNON, CT — A traveler looking for coffee apparently fell asleep and slammed into a resident's vehicle on Thursday afternoon, thus closing a portion of Center Road in Vernon.

That was the indication from an accident report completed over the weekend.

Two witnesses reported seeing a 2013 Subaru Crosstrek traveling north on Center Road cross the center line and slam into the driver's side of a 2000 Ford Explorer driven by a Crestridge Drive resident on the opposite side, according to the crash report.

The driver is the Subaru was a New Jersey man who said he had just returned from a European vacation and was visiting relatives in Massachusetts, according to the crash report. He told police he was heading back to New Jersey on Thursday, exited Interstate-84 and was looking for some coffee, according to the crash report.

He then apparently fell asleep at the wheel, according to the crash report.
