UConn Basketball Player Shonn Miller Shares Hoop And Academic Secrets At Vernon's Maple Street School

He visited the school on Friday.

VERNON, CT - Students at Maple Street School had a special visitor on Friday.

Shonn Miller, who played for the University of Connecticut basketball team as a graduate student last season after transferring from Cornell, shared his thoughts about sports and academics with fourth- and fifth-graders.

He is 6-foot-7 now, but told the students he was about 4-feet tall when he was the same age as the students he visited on Friday.

He emphasized academics during the question-and-answer session, not only because he already has a degree from an Ivy League school but because his mom, Stephanie Garrett, would not let him play ball if his grades were not good.
