Vernon Board of Education Endorses 2013-14 Calendar

School will start on Aug. 28 and 29 and end on June 10 in a 2013-14 academic year calendar approved by the Board of Education on Monday.

Here are some of the highlights:

• Teachers will report for professional development on Aug. 26 and 27.

• Students in pre-K, kindergarten, elementary school, grade 6 and grade 9 will begin classes on Aug. 28. Students in grades 7 and 8 and 10 through 12 will start school on Aug. 29.

• Nov. 12 is a professional development day and students are off.

• Nov. 27 will be a half-day of school and students will be off for the Thanksgiving recess on Nov. 28 and 29.

• The holiday recess runs from Dec. 23 to 31. There are also no classes on New Year's Day.

• Martin Luther King Day is Jan. 20.

• Feb 17 is a Monday off, creating a long weekend for the February Recess.

• Feb 18 is a professional development day.

• April 11 is a professional development day.

• April 14 through 17 is the Spring Recess and April 18 Good Friday. If school is canceled for 13 or more days makeups will begin on April 14 and move forward that week.

• Classes end on June 10.
